   These are the filters for the small under-sink reverse osmosis filter system we bought to filter minerals out of our well water for making coffee, tea etc. The have a whole house filter for contaminants and sediment, but the calcium isn’t filtered and affects the lifespan of our coffee and ice tea makers.
   Due to the design, it takes me about a half hour to replace all the filters on the system; it isn’t hard it’s just difficult to work with it under the sink, removing and replacing the filters.

   Replacing the stage 1-3 filters was straightforward. The video for doing this was helpful. It even helped in that I was bit confused about which way to turn to loosen the filter housing and I could just watch the video for which way. You need the original wrench to open the 3 filter housings. Turn off the water inlet as well as the tank. Be aware that water will likely spill out a little bit when you loosen the filter housing since each of those filter housing legs are filled with water. So be sure to put a rag or a tub under (preferably rectangular, our fridge shelf worked well for me). After removing the housings, the first housing one needed bit of rinsing since the orange parts were all over but the other two of the different material needed only a little bit of rinsing. The new filters were slightly different looking. The stage 2,3 filters I took out looked black while the one I put in was white. The stage 1 was orange and the one I put in was white. It is probably due to use that the color had changed. Tightening the filter housings and then putting it back was straightforward. There were no leaks and I did check that I had all the black o-rings in place; in the filters and the housings. Overall, easy to change. The reverse osmosis water filter has been so great to us and I’m relieved that the stage 1-3 filter replacement were straightforward.

   i have these filters on subscription and am very happy with them. they come in every 6 months and i replace them with ease. i hooked this filter system up to my kitchen sink and is the only water i use to drink and cook with. water tastes great and i can see what these filtrate when replacing. happy i bought them.

   EDIT- I was finally contacted by APEC, and not only did they help troubleshoot my issue, but they sent me a few replacement filters, free of charge. This is bittersweet… Yay for problem solved, but what a headache to get in touch with someone who knows what they are talking about at APEC. I have changed my rating from ONE star to FOUR, and if the solution APEC proposed works, I will amend my review accordingly. ************************************************ Original Review- I’m on city water, (10+ years) and traditionally filters are changed with consistency according to manufacturer’s specifications. In the past, NEVER have I had a filter plug up prior to the recommended change interval. I switched to APEC when my last filter bit the dust, and changed at the recommended one year mark. The replacement filters lasted 2.5 months before they completely plugged. When I pulled the replacement filters, they actually looked BETTER than the original filters- minimal sediment accumulation/rust visible. I contacted APEC, in part to troubleshoot, in part because changing the filters every 2-3 months was not acceptable, esp given the history of my water, knowing that the original APEC filters made it an entire year. Now COULD something have happened, something that hadn’t happened in the past 10+ years, where the City water all of a sudden flushed a bunch of invisible contaminants into my RO system? YES! Not likely, but YES. This is why I just wanted to discuss with APEC, and get to the bottom of the issue. To date, I have not been able to connect with an APEC representative that can give me a straight answer about ANY of the products that they sell. I suspected I had a faulty 4th stage, reverse osmosis membrane, but to be honest, I really don’t understand all things Reverse Osmosis. The waste water that’s created as part of the RO membrane can be puzzling. For instance- APEC sells a ROES100 Reverse Osmosis system that is the ONLY system they sell that has an advertised “1:1 drain ratio that reduces waste water up to 300%”. If that is the case, I would assume that on the ROES100, the first three stages would last up to 3x longer, as they need to filter up to 3x less than the ROES50, which has a 3:1 drain ratio? APEC replied that the ROES50 and ROES100 water usage was the same, but the ROES100 merely wastes less. I’m sorry, but this answer makes no sense. Until I can get a straight answer from APEC, I will assume that the product I received was as awesome as the customer service I received.

   I repurchased this filter system 3 times already. In the pictures you can see my old filter. Just look at how much gross stuff was in there. The filter is an absolute necessity. Water tastes much better. Husband installed it and he said it was not difficult.

    Buyer beware – I purchased this 3 months ago and only opened the box now, only to discover that one piece (the blue coloured membrane) is missing in the box. Unfortunately for me, the return and support window has long passed so I have to somehow get that piece on it’s own.

    The filter change was very easy, took me about an hour working at a leisurely pace. Instructions cover how to swap out each filter. Individually, rather than all at once. So I turned off water supply, closed tank valve. Then swapped out all filters. Then left tank closed but turned on water supply AND turned on the filter water faucet for 15 minutes to purge the air and fill the new filters. Then I closed filter water lever. Opened tank valve and waited 3 hours to fill. Then I drained the tank. According to directions the 2nd tank is ready to drink.

    These replacement cartridges are easy to install, instructions are clear. I was slightly confused at one step but this company has installation videos on YouTube so I watched a short clip and was back on track. The water tastes fantastic, as usual.

    APEC RO 50 Filters Replaced: 11/16/24 * Shut off the tank valve and red main water valve from water line, and the open the faucet * 1st filter: large particle filter (change once a year) * 2nd & 3rd are carbon block filters (change every 2 years) (Bottom three can be easily changed independently of the top two). Just unscrew, rinse and replace with new filters, making sure the they are centered and lined correctly. Make sure the O Ring is in place, not damaged. * 4th small filter: just push on the collet/collar and pull out the hose from both ends. Easy. (Pull out a plastic pin plug from the new replacement and dip both ends in a light bleach water to avoid contamination before installing. * 5th is a Membrane filter (green). Use strap wrench and special plastic wrench. This is the hardest. Tools: Flash light, kneeling pad, tray, towels, pliers, plastic wrench and spammer, bleach water and clean rag.
